Water Garden Questions And Answers. Do I need a UV clarifier???

If this is the case for your pond then it's time to haul-out the
heavy artillery ; Ultra-violet Sterilization. Sounds high tech doesn't it?
It is High intensity ultra-violet light which destroys any algae that
passes through it.

These units are great! HOWEVER ; you must continue to use
the other water purity products such as Pond-Zyme & Accu-clear
to keep a bit of biological activity going in your water and
Chloromine Buster or Stress Coat when adding or changing water.
If you don't then other dangerous water problems can occur.
Remember clear water is not necessarily clean or pure water.

UV sterilizers are highly effective on green water but are
indiscriminate when it comes to which organism to eradicate.
They simply kill whatever is in the passing water ; the bad
and the good. This increases the need for water plants and
silt collecting materials on which the beneficial bacteria's can
get a stable foothold. UV is ineffective on stringy algae because
the plant never actually passes through the sterilizer. But
having some stringy algae is good because of its ability to
collect beneficial bacteria.

So what's the bottom line ?... Use Ultra-violet when you are sure
that you've tried all other methods of water clarity.
