Q : How do I decide where to place my pond ?
A :
Placement is a
very important decision. Choose an open space that receives
no more than 6 hours
of direct sun. The space should be away from large
trees
and shrubs so as to avoid excessive
amounts of falling debris. There should
be access to a water source and
electricity. The electricity should be a heavy
duty multiple outlet box with a
'ground fault interrupter 'on its own breaker.
You may need to power a pump
along with a floating
heater and possibly a
UV
sterilizer if
you get too much sun. The location should
also be aesthetically
pleasing and easy to dig. There should be NO sharp points
on the
inner surfaces of the hole (roots. slate and shale or old construction
debris etc.)
even if you use an underlayment..
You will need someplace to pile the dirt
coming out of the hole. Typically this
mound becomes some form of
water
spillway which is heavily planted to
prevent erosion.
